The sale of psychedelic mushrooms, better known as magic mushrooms, has moved from back-alley backrooms to retail stores across the country. This shift in the use of hallucinogens has created legal challenges for employers who must determine how to respond when employees have psilocybin or psilocin on their drug test results or in their personal possession.Find out:https://elevatedyou.cc/
As the mushroom boom gains momentum, a small number of brick-and-mortar shops are popping up in Canada’s major cities selling the psychoactive ingredient in magic mushrooms, psilocybin. It’s illegal to possess and sell psilocybin in Canada without a licence or exemption from Health Canada, but these storefront retailers appear to be cashing in on public indifference as well as the fact that police forces are more focused on the opioid crisis than on cracking down on psilocybin dispensaries.

One of the new shops is in Vancouver, where Thomas Hartle runs the Magic Mushroom Cafe. He became the first person in Canada to get a ministerial exemption to take magic mushrooms as part of his treatment for terminal colon cancer last year, but he says it’s been tough to find legal avenues to access the drug and that as a result he’s seen an illegal market grow.
While Hartle hasn’t had any issues with the city or police, he expects to face a legal challenge from the province’s attorney-general over his business licence. But that doesn’t stop him from encouraging people to “buy from trusted sources and stay safe.” A few blocks away at Toronto’s Shroomyz, a passer-by who wouldn’t give his name was less reluctant to talk about his experience. He hadn’t noticed the shop before but said he was “not opposed to trying something new.”
